World Turtle Day 2021
Today is World Turtle Day (who knew, right?!) so here are some Painted Turtles in flight—errrr I mean, doing what turtles do best, hanging out on a log. Their markings are quite striking, and I love how the stripes shift from deep red on their bodies to bright yellow along the neck and head. If you’d like to learn more about how to shell-ebrate turtles today, head over to World Turtle Day.
Built for the long haul
Painted turtles are known for their impressive longevity, with many individuals living several decades. On average, they can live 20–30 years in the wild, and some have been documented reaching 40 years or more. (Source: Mike’s Mystical Reptiles)
