Can’t See Us!

“Listen, here’s what we do. Just be still, don’t move, there’s not a chance in the world anyone can see us in here. Then when it’s clear, deuces out!”

Tucked into the tall grasses, these white-tailed deer stood motionless, relying on stillness and camouflage rather than speed. At a glance they almost disappeared into the field, their ears and eyes giving away just enough to hint that something was watching back. Moments like this are a reminder that sometimes survival isn’t about running — it’s about knowing when not to move at all.

Built-in Alarm System

When danger approaches, female white-tailed deer raise their tails, flashing the bright white underside as a visual warning to others nearby. This tail-flagging behavior signals the herd to flee and helps communicate threats across open landscapes. (Source: National Deer Association)
